5 Ways To Get That Pinterest-style Bedroom Without Hiring An Overpriced Stylist

I don’t know about you, but my bedroom is my sanctuary. I always want it to be super cozy as well as super trendy like all those stunning bedrooms you see on Pinterest. I am a firm believer in the school of DIY, especially when I don’t have the cash to use the services of an uber fancy stylist. If you’re in the same boat as me, recreating those Pinterest style rooms is possible even without the help of a stylist.

Here are 5 ways to help you get on your way to that Pinterest Style room of your dreams. Let’s go!

    1. Create a mood board on Pinterest

If you’re going to decorate your place yourself and still come up with a kick-ass design, then you need to widen your mind. And when you’re trying to get a Pinterest style bedroom, where better to start than at the home base itself: Pinterest!

Try getting fresh ideas from different internet sources. Pinterest is one of the great platforms to get ideas for any DIY project you take up. There are thousands of people sharing their ideas through pictures and videos.

Create a mood board on Pinterest and add all the pictures you like to it. This would help you get a fair idea of what you want your room to look like and what common themes and features you see pop up. So the next time you go shopping, you know what to look out for.

    2. Decide on a palette of about 2-3 colours.

If you’re anything like me, you’d be conflicted about what colours you want to use and before long, you start trying to justify a room with pink, yellow, green, and red. Yeah, not really.

Take a leaf from trees of prominent stylists and stick to few colours. Having fewer colours makes designing your room easier and keeps everything cohesive. The general rule of thumb is about 3 colours. Choose three colours for your room, one for your decor, one for furniture and a neutral colour to balance things out.

    3. Store all Your Clutter Away Neatly

Clutter is never in trend. But what do you do when you want a trendy space but have stacks of stuff to sort through? Easy. Kill two birds with one stone. Invest in furniture that also doubles up as a storage space.

Beds with drawers and sofas with hidden drawers. This furniture can make your home look good as well as help you de-clutter your space. Easy peasy.

    4. Make Sure Everything is Matching

You know when you’re flipping through a catalogue, and you see a picture of a room that you just love? Well, a lot of the time you can replicate that exact look in your space by purchasing an entire package.

Packages are created by furniture retailers’ grouping together products from the same range, or similar styles, and selling them for discounted rates.

Packages are an awesome way to ensure that all your furniture will match each other, and thanks to the package discount, you’ll usually save some big bucks in the process.

You could makeover your bedroom in seconds with a little bedroom package like this:

    Bermuda Bedroom Range

There’s something about a room that has a matching set of bedsheets drapes and rugs. Everything looks great at the end of the day. If you love that trendy and quaint look, go for matching bedroom sets. Browse some here! Handy!

    5. Small Details Help Make Your Room Pop

It’s always the small details that do it. Pay attention to little details like throw pillows, pot plants and quilted throw blankets. These small items are usually the ones that push a room from okay to spectacular. While shopping, look out for those trendy throw pillows and brass lamplights.

  • 5 Shocking Ways Your Mattress May Actually Be Harming You

5 Shocking Ways Your Mattress May Actually Be Harming You

It’s your sanctuary at night, your cozy bedtime pal, but is your mattress secretly working against you? It’s scary but it’s true: the wrong mattress can actually do you more harm than good!

Not many people know the extent to which your mattress can affect your day-to-day, but we’ve broken it down for you so you can keep an eye on your mattress and make sure it’s serving you well.

Read on to find out five things your mattress may be doing to hurt you.

    1. Your mattress could be housing nasty little dust mites which can trigger allergies

Look, let’s be honest: cleaning our mattresses is something we always say we would do but don’t ever really do. It’s such a hassle. And honestly, how dirty can a mattress really get?

    Turns out – very!

Leaving our mattresses for so long without a good cleaning creates an opportunity for dust mites and other nasties (such as dead skin cells – eugh!) to enter the mattress. Dust mites are well known for their allergy-inducing capabilities. So if you find yourself sneezing, congested, or just feeling a little under the weather all too often, take a good look at your mattress.

To combat this collection of gross-ness in your mattress, we recommend the following:

    • Wash your bedding at least weekly. It’s a pain, but a necessary evil! You’ll notice all the difference, we promise.
    • Use allergen-proof bedding. We highly recommend our Zeek range of bedding. It’s antimicrobial, super-soft, affordable, and a fortress against dust mites!
    • Switch to an antimicrobial mattress! If your mattress is a bit older, consider making the switch to a specialised antimicrobial mattress. Check out our range of Zeek mattresses for a cheap mattress that will make all the difference.
The Zeek Original Mattress in all its antimicrobial glory!

    2. Poor back neck and joints support can cause long term damage

Sore? Stiff? Achey? Take a good look at your mattress. This is one of the most common disadvantages of using a low-quality or past-its-use-by-date mattress. Many people complain of back pain, neck pain and aches in their joints without taking a good look at who the culprit may be (Spoiler: they live in your bedroom!)

Seeking medical/professional help for aches and pains is a must, but if this is not supported by a solid and sturdy mattress at night, then all the good work may be undone and then you could develop more significant long term problems.

Good news: the solution is easy! Pop into your local bedding expert store and speak to a knowledgable salesman about your issues and your pain points. They should show you a range of mattresses in varying budgets that can help combat these annoying pains.

Here at ComfortStyle, we have a set of skilled bedding experts on staff who are trained to help you find the ideal mattress for your budget and needs. Pop in-store any time and we’ll help you find exactly what you need!

    3. It could be causing you to overheat

Memory foam mattresses are all the rage right now, and for good reason – they’re super-duper comfy! But the secret many mattress retailers don’t tell you is that memory foam mattresses can often trap your body heat and cause you to overheat overnight and wake up hot, bothered, and sweaty – no thanks!

This isn’t to say all memory foam mattresses are bad though of course! Take our Zeek range for example. This range has been specially created to cool you down overnight instead of warming you up by using special bamboo fabric that uses your body heat to create an evaporative cooling effect. Pretty cool! (Pardon the pun)

Cool, calm, & collected. Shop Zeek now

    4. Your mattress could be emitting toxic fumes

Some mattresses emit toxic gases into the environment, and this can really affect your health (obviously – they’re toxic!). To avoid this, ensure that all new mattresses you buy are certified against poisonous materials.

Look out for certifications on your mattresses such as CertiPUR-US® or STANDARD 100 by OEKO-TEX®. If it has these certifications, it’s been independently tested and is marked as healthy, safe, and free from nasties.

    5. Your mattress has an expiry date

Just like the food in your fridge, your mattress has an expiry date! The general recommended lifespan of a mattress is about 6-7 years. If your mattress is approaching this birthday it may be time to retire it in favour of a new one.

Keeping a mattress that is past its use-by-date can do your body a lot of damage. The springs may have deteriorated creating uneven support, a bumpy feeling, and they may have even started to squeak – annoying! The foam in your mattress may have also started breaking down from years of use.

Also, yes it’s gross but you need to consider: around the 6-7 year mark your mattress will have accumulated a lot of sweat, dead skin, dust, and other everyday bits of grime that a good vacuum or airing cannot get out.

Because the shelf life of a mattress is much longer than the milk in your fridge, when you’re mattress shopping, be sure to consider that this purchase is an investment for the next 6-7 years. When you break down the total price over that span of time, spending a little more can really pay off in the long term!

  • Do NOT Buy a Mattress Before Reading These 5 Mattress-Buying Mistakes

Do NOT Buy a Mattress Before Reading These 5 Mattress-Buying Mistakes

Let’s be honest: mattresses can be expensive. Buying a new mattress is definitely a long-term investment, and like all investments, if you don’t do your research beforehand, you’re risking a loss!

Here at ComfortStyle, we’ve been in the bedding industry for many years and we’ve seen all too many people come to us after shopping around at other stores and complaining that they’ve wasted hundreds, sometimes thousands of dollars during the mattress-buying process.

We don’t want anyone to be losing sleep over mattress-mistakes so we’ve decided to break down the top mattress buying mistakes that we see happen all too often. Let’s discuss.

    1. Buying without trying

In the past few years, online shopping has skyrocketed. Buying online is so quick, easy, and you can do it while wearing pyjamas – what’s not to love! However, there are some things we don’t recommend you shop online for, and that’s mattresses.

Comfort is 100% subjective. You may see reviews online that say a mattress is comfy and fantastic, click ‘add to cart’, get it delivered, lay down, and realise those reviews’ definition of comfy does not match your own. Uh-oh, now you have to pay for courier returns, and fork out for another mattress. Sigh.

This is the danger of buying without trying first. Dedicate a little time to visiting a store that carries the mattress you have your eye on and lay down on it. Be sure to lay down vertically, as you would when you’re ready to go to sleep, laying horizontally won’t give you an accurate feel for how the bed will actually be in action.

Be sure to also lay on the bed exactly as you do at bedtime! If you’re a stomach sleeper, get on your tummy and get comfy, if you’re a side sleeper, roll over and get a good feel for it. Don’t feel silly spending a while on each mattress, that’s what the showrooms are for!

Once you’ve found The One, buying online is no longer a problem as you know exactly what will arrive to your front door!

    2. Opting for a cheap mattress over a quality mattress

You know that old adage “you get what you pay for”? Yep, this is very true for mattresses.

Of course, everyone has a different budget when it comes to purchasing mattresses, but you should always prioritize quality over price tag. Most of these cheap mattresses don’t last long, and in no time at all, you’ll be back looking for a new mattress, and bam! more money down the drain.

Despite what your wallet may want, if you’re able to, don’t go for the cheapest mattress in the room. That $50 mattress could save you in the short term but could possibly make you develop backaches and pains that’ll cost you a pretty penny in medical expenses down the line.

Think of your mattress as an investment for the next 6-7 years. If you split the cost up over that timeframe, it doesn’t hurt as bad to fork out for.

If your budget is really tight, don’t forget that here at ComfortStyle we offer layby options, Zip Pay, and other financial programs to help you spread out your payments over time. We’re here to help!

    3. Not using a mattress protector

It may seem like an added expense at the time but getting yourself a mattress protector can really be worth its weight in gold in the long run!

Mattress protectors are often waterproof, antimicrobial, and help protect your new investment from day-to-day wear and tear. A quality mattress protector can help extend the life of your mattress significantly and is well worth consideration when shopping for a new mattress!

Looking for an affordable protector that has all the bells and whistles? Check out the Zeek Bamboo Mattress Protector. It’s super soft, cushy, and does a top-notch job every night without fail.

    4. More layers do not equal more comfort

Even the princess in the Princess and the Pea fairytale knows this to be true. Mattresses that come with several layers are said to be more comfortable than those with fewer layers, but this isn’t always true. What’s more? These densely layered mattresses are far more expensive than other mattresses.

Densley layered mattresses are often full of gimmick-y “technologies” to the point where you’re mostly buying layers of marketing rather than layers of comfort. No thanks!

Take time out to find out what mattress best suits your needs before making a purchase. Don’t spend so much money getting one of these heavily layered mattresses only to discover that it isn’t as comfortable as it’s meant to be. You’d have lost your money and still need a right mattress. Again, no thanks!

    5. Not pairing your mattress with the right pillow

It’s not all about the mattress. Sometimes, your neck pain could be as a result of the pillow you’re using. You could have a great mattress but it can all be moot if your pillow ain’t doing its job.

Certain pillows have certain heights, shapes, levels of support, etc. depending on what your needs are. If you’re experiencing neck and shoulder pain in the morning even after getting a quality mattress, take a look at the pillow/s you’re using.

So before you race off to replace your mattress and fork out hundreds, consider replacing your old pillows with a quality memory foam pillow. Shop our Zeek range for affordable options!

  • How To Eliminate Clutter In Your Home And Keep It Gone Forever

How To Eliminate Clutter In Your Home And Keep It Gone Forever

Everyone loves a spacious home, and that’s why we rave about the beautiful homes we see on our favourite real estate magazines and TV shows. But each time we come home and face a cluttered house, we lose hope of ever having a home that is free from clutter.

You might not notice it because it’s your home, but clutter often makes an otherwise beautiful house look a little unkempt. The presence of several unnecessary objects takes your guest’s attention away from the room decor and right towards the stack of mail precariously balanced on top of the microwave.

If you fall into the category of people who have tried and failed to maintain a clutter-free zone, this guide is for you.

Here are a few steps on how to eliminate clutter in your home and keep it forever. Stay tuned for our GOLDEN TIP!

    Beware the junk drawer

We all have one, we never let anyone see it, we’re a little ashamed of it, and if we’re honestly asked… we’re not too sure what purpose it serves.

Yes, we’re talking about the junk drawer.

That drawer tucked away in your home that stores all the sticky tape, old Nokia charging cords, pens that don’t work, a card from your birthday six years ago and mounds of miscellaneous papers that you’re sure are probably important.

The first place to start when decluttering your space is to tackle this bad boy. Pull the drawer out, pull all it’s scary contents out, sort them into ‘categories’ (i.e. papers, stationery, electronics, etc.). After you’ve categorised, throw away anything you haven’t used in the past year. Be ruthless.

Done? Good job! Now onto step two.

A place for everything and everything in its place

The easiest way for clutter to accumulate is by not allotting specific spaces for certain objects. No nook to keep mail? It’ll wind up strewn across your kitchen counter or in the junk drawer. No place to keep pens and pencils? They’ll also end up in the junk drawer. No place to store your shoes? They’ll be scattered across your bedroom floor ready to trip you up on your midnight dash to the loo.

The solution? Storage, storage, storage. Find bedside tables, tallboys, bookcases, and units with plenty of storage as a starter. Then add trays, files, desktop organisers, etc. as you need. Give everything a place to land. Let’s eliminate that junk drawer mentality.

Develop a habit of putting things away IMMEDIATELY

Putting away things that you have used can be a difficult habit to learn. Do you know why? It’s easy to drop it just there. Dropping things randomly wherever you’re done with them is one habit that most people can’t let go. However, if you want that clutter-free home, you’d bream this habit.

When you’re done with an item, make an effort to put it back. Finished with that magazine? Pop it back into the magazine rack. Done with the toaster? Let it cool down and then put it back in the cupboard.

There Is Such Thing as over Organizing

In your quest to organize your home, you might end up falling into the trap of cluttering it further. How does this happen? Easy. All the boxes and containers you use to “pack” your belongings most often end up making more clutter.

When adding a new storage system to your space, ask yourself this: Is this going to help me eliminate clutter, or will it likely add to it.

Know how to let go and how

Knowing how and when to let go of things is a necessary skill everyone needs to have. Most often than not, your attachment to certain items such as your child’s first doll or his safety blanket ends up holding you down. Memories don’t live in those materials; they live in your mind and experiences. Go through your closet today and deal with those clothes.

Separate the clothes into three groups, one for the clothes you’d keep, the ones you’d give away/donate and the ones that you need to throw away.

It is important to carry out this big “purge” regularly to avoid the buildup of more clothes.

Keeping that clutter out for real can be difficult to manage, but we have faith in you. It IS possible!

Have your furniture work double-time as storage

Sometimes, a bed doesn’t just have to be a bed. Sometimes, it can be an ultra-handy storage solution too! Same with coffee tables. And lounges. And vanities. The list goes on!

If you experience an onslaught of clutter on the daily, it might do you a world of good to update your furniture to feature hidden storage. This is especially helpful for people in smaller spaces that can’t afford to introduce entirely new cupboards, shelving units, etc.

When it comes to your living room, ditch that trendy minimalist coffee table for one with discreetly hidden storage like this Hawaii one pictured below!

    Jayda Coffee Table

Not enough storage for the living room? Consider a lounge with bonus storage like this Santana Lounge below! With handy in-arm storage compartments for remotes, magazines, charging cords, etc. your living room will have a hard time NOT staying spic-and span.

    Giorgio Modular Lounge

Get your hands on a bed with handy under-bed drawers like this trendy little design below!

East West Drawer 4 Drawer Queen Base

These drawers are great for storing shoes, linen, throw blankets, extra pillows, and maybe some bedtime snacks.

Store your guests away neatly too

    Well, sort of.

Do you have school friends of your little ones’ coming over for sleepovers regularly? Do you have family from out of town staying overnight? Forget about that clunky, squeaky trundle bed you keep stashed in the laundry and incorporate extra sleep space into your furniture!

Check out this stylish single bed, complete with a pull-out trundle for sleepovers OR converts to comfortably sleep two people side by side. Now those last-minute pleads to have Jessica from school sleepover this weekend are a lot less stressful!

Sofa beds are a great way to add extra sleep space for guests without compromising on style or adding clutter to your living room. Browse our full range of trendy sofa beds here.

    Our GOLDEN TIP

Here’s our golden tip for keeping a clutter-free space that is tried and true by many. When you’re leaving a room, take a quick scan of your space and see if there is anything that needs to be put away into the room you’re moving to.

Leaving the bedroom on your way to the kitchen? Take a quick scan for any cups that need to go in the sink or any dirty laundry strewn on the floor that needs to be thrown in the laundry hamper on your way to the kitchen.

Having this “Oh I’ll put it away while I’m on my way” mentality makes tidying up less of a chore and more of a routine. Eventually, this will just become a habit – imagine that! A habit that keeps your house clean! Score!

  • The Only Free Five-Step Guide You Will Ever Need For Styling Your Home Like a Pro!

The Only Free Five-Step Guide You Will Ever Need For Styling Your Home Like a Pro!

Everyone dreams of designing their ideal, cozy, and beautiful home but not everyone can afford an interior designer, and when it comes time to DIY-ing it, it can be hard to know where to start. But, not to worry! With our tips, we’ll get you on the way to styling your space all by yourself and make it look like it was designed by an expert. Let’s get into it.

    01. Make a mood board

The first thing to do is to have a concrete idea of what you want your space to look like. If you have ideas in mind already, you can expand on it but if not, there are research resources like Pinterest where you can get different ideas.

Pin different colours, textures, furniture styles, and inspiration images together. Once you’ve pinned a few, have a look at your board and highlight the commonly recurring elements. For example, if you see a lot of warm timber furniture in your pins, add that to your shopping list. Notice a lot of brass/chrome accents? Keep an eye out for a trendy copper-toned lamp or decor pieces on your next shopping trip!

Our moodboard based on the Cardello Sofa

If you’re designing your space with roommates, a partner, or the whole family, be sure to take the time to sit down with them and show them your ideas, and let them voice their own.

    02. Pick colours for your space

After piecing together your ideas and getting a rough idea of what you want your space to look like, the next thing to consider is the colour scheme you plan on using.

Picking the right colour scheme is crucial as it can completely change a room. Keep in mind how much light you have in the space, what the room will be used for, and what mood you’d like to evoke. Want a nice and cozy bedroom? Stick to warmer, deeper tones. Want an airy, tranquil living room? Stick to neutrals and off-white tones!

To achieve a perfect colour scheme, we recommend you go for a combination of three dominant colors. One base colour for furniture; one accent colour for your decor items, throw blankets, a feature wall, and to add depth; and then a nice neutral colour to help balance out your space.

Check out how we’ve designed our Nexus bedroom package below. We’ve used the bright whites from the furniture as our base colour. We’ve also used green as a trendy accent colour for the feature wall. And then we’ve used some nice textured wall panelling and beige accent pieces to balance these two colours out!

    Nexus Bedroom Package

    03. Time to put the ‘decor’ in ‘home decorating pro’

Once you have all of your base colours and furniture items in place, it’s time to add depth and dimension with decor, artwork, and little accents! Finding affordable and beautiful decor pieces is easy, the tricky part is making sure they will work in your space.

Before scanning that new throw pillow at the checkout, ask yourself if it fits within your colour scheme and overall “vibe” of your space. It may be a beautiful pillow, but if it doesn’t work within your space, it’ll just stick out like a sore thumb!

Another brilliant way to add a ‘lived-in’ feel to your space is by adding artwork! You can find affordable artwork and prints online, frame them and arrange them as you like. Or better yet, keep an eye out for local art shows and pick up a locally made masterpiece to create an interesting talking point for your room.

    04. Add some greenery!

This might seem like a relatively easy tip but it can really make all the difference in your space. Putting flowers, plants in your room can instantly add life to your space.

On top of helping clear the air and giving you a new horticulture hobby, plants help to break up spaces and add focal points to otherwise empty parts of your room.

Not quite a green thumb? Don’t worry. Faux and artificial plants are sold just about everywhere right now and are a great option for people who don’t have the time or energy to maintain a finicky houseplant. We won’t tell if you don’t.

    05. Get the set!

  • 6 Silly Mistakes Furniture Buyers Make That Cost Them Thousands

6 Silly Mistakes Furniture Buyers Make That Cost Them Thousands

Buying furniture is an investment. So that’s why it breaks our heart to see that investment spoiled away by a few easily avoidable mistakes. We see these mistakes made time and time again, so we’re here to make sure that you don’t fall victim to them too!

    01. Choosing a low price tag over quality

Let’s be real: nobody likes to spend more money than they have to. If you can save a couple of dollars here and there, we all want to! But when it comes to the furniture that you will be living with every day, sometimes its the wiser decision to spend a little extra to ensure you’re getting the quality you need.

Here’s the thing: cheap furniture is often made cheap. This is fine for temporary items, purely decorative items, etc. But for items such as lounges, beds, storage units, and dining sets, all the things you are going to be using every day, you need to be able to trust that they can keep up with you and will last for as long as you need them to. And unfortunately, that $50 dining set might just not be able to.

Affordable and sturdy: Harper Dining Suite

This isn’t to say that all of your furniture needs to be the most luxurious, high priced designs you can find – keep your eye peeled for those bargains! However, when shopping around for furniture, keep in mind that it is an investment. A slightly bigger spend now can sometimes save you big time down the line.

    02. Not reading assembly instructions properly

Ever put together a piece of furniture and had a pile of screws and mysterious extra pieces left over? One common mistake we see made is people skimming through their assembly instructions and mostly guessing how to put their piece together. This is a big no-no and could cost you in the long run.

By skipping a few steps in the assembly process, you could be decreasing the strength, durability, or structural integrity of your new product which can quickly lead to damage and a hefty repair (or replacement) fee.

When putting together your item, take a bit of time to have a cuppa and read through the instructions thoroughly first. And then get to work assembling and we guarantee you’ll have no mystery pieces hanging around once you’re done!

Not too handy? No problem! Most furniture retailers (ComfortStyle included!) offer you affordable assembly options to help you save time and the headache of putting together your new addition. Sometimes a small investment short term can pay off big in the long term.

    03. Getting hit by surprise hidden delivery fees

There’s nothing worse than finding a perfect new lounge that’s well within your budget, just to find that the delivery fees completely smash that budget to smithereens.

We see this a lot with online-only brands. Many often charge an arm and a leg for delivery of even the smallest of items as they are usually shipping from over east which can be pretty pricey.

Here at ComfortStyle we manually calculate all of our delivery fees for each order to ensure we are offering you the best and lowest fee possible from the nearest W.A. location possible.

    04. Not opting for that optional fabric guarantee

We get it, nobody wants to add an extra fee on top of an already pricey purchase. But by not safeguarding your shiny new sofa with a fabric guarantee, you’re running the risk of saving a little money now, but spending a lot of money on repairs, stain removers, and cleaning products later.

Obviously, nobody ever expects to stain or damage their brand new furniture, but mistakes happen. And if you have pets, children, or like to eat around your fabric or leather furniture, mistakes definitely happen. Furniture brands will often offer you a fabric guarantee when purchasing a new fabric item as they know the wear and tear each fabric takes over time.

For example, here at ComfortStyle, we offer a furniture care brand called Guardsman. These package products often come with a cleaning set designed for your specific item, and then a guarantee that promise full protection of your fabric/timber/etc or they will cover the cost of your whole lounge/chair/etc replacement! Pretty good deal in the long run if you ask us.

A small price to pay for peace of mind: Shop Guardsman now

    05. Not getting a design that suits your space

You can find 100 items of furniture that you love, but deciding if it will suit your space well is a whole other battle.

Our tips for avoiding a furniture-room clash are these:

    • First, stick to similar colour palettes for your items. E.g. if you have dark timber, stick to that tone of timber. If you have mostly cool neutral colours, pick fabrics and timbers that are cooler in tone.
    • Second, you can make a mood board on Pinterest of your room and pin each item you have and are considering, to get a visual idea of if your room will work with your new perspective piece/s.
    • Use our View In Your Home tool! Under all of our products we have a handy link to a tool that will help you preview your selected product in your home.
Give our View In Your Home tool a spin now!

    06. Forgetting to measure your space

The old adage of “measure twice, cut once” applies to furniture buying as much as it does to handyman skills.

The last thing you want is to bring your beautiful bedding suite home only to spend hours trying to fit it all into place like a giant game of Tetris.

Instead, before you click ‘add to cart’ or swipe your credit card, be sure to whip out the tape measure and quickly plot out where your new addition/s are to go.

On all product pages, we have a full set of dimensions ready to go for you so you can double (and triple) check that all the items on your wishlist will fit perfectly in their new home.
